SULLIVAN COUNTY, N.Y. -- There will be a special meeting today in Narrowsburg to discuss the sudden cancelation of the Fourth of July fireworks celebration.

Narrowsburg is known as the Eagle Capital of New York, and this year the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service cancelled the fireworks show, for fear the fireworks would scare off injured nesting eagles. Injuring or disturbing eagles is a violation of the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and is punishable by a fine.

The Lava Fire Department, which was set to sponsor the event, pulled out to avoid the thousands of dollars in penalties.

Today's special meeting is at the Narrowsburg Inn at 11 a.m.
