SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The Schenectady Police Department is investigating an incident where they say a man claimed to be an employee of the City's Water Department. Police say it happened around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday on the 1500 block of California Avenue.

According to police, the man entered the home of an elderly resident after saying he was an employee with the Water Department. Soon after, the resident started to feel something was unusual with the situation.

"The resident became suspicious, said the police were outside, and the suspect then fled on foot," said Lt. Mark McCracken, Schenectady Police Department.

Nothing was stolen and the resident was not injured.

The Water Department says none of their employees were working in that area during the time of the incident.

Police describe the suspect as a short male, with earrings. He was last seen wearing a black or dark blue jacket with the words "Water Department" on it and a black or dark blue knit cap.
