MONTGOMERY COUNTY, N.Y. – People in one Mohawk Valley county could get $5,000 if they can help boost tourism.

Montgomery County is launching a new grant program. It awards monies for events, marketing and economic development, geared toward tourists.

The program was designed by county supervisors to take some money brought in by the occupancy tax and give it back to the sites in the county.

β€œIt's things that are going to re-establish more occupancy tax, so clearly we want to have something that's going to bring visitors into our county, stay in our hotels and bed and breakfast and create more occupancy tax to give back to the county,” said Jacki Meola of the Montgomery County Business Development Center.

The application deadline is March 1st.
