Sen. Brown not running in race to replace Kerry

MASSACHUSETTS -- As John Kerry leaves behind his Senate seat to become Secretary of State, candidates are beginning to throw their hats in the ring to replace him. However, Republican Scott Brown will not be among them.
The former U.S. Senator announced he will not run in the special election to replace Kerry. Brown won a special election in 2010 for the late Ted Kennedy's seat, but fell short in his re-election bid. He lost to Democrat Elizabeth Warren this past November.
Brown says over the last few weeks, he's received a lot of encouragement to run and gave serious thought to jumping in the race. However, he says he has decided against it.
He released a statement which reads, in part:
"I was not at all certain that a third Senate campaign in less than four years, and the prospect of returning to a Congress even more partisan than the one I left, was really the best way for me to continue in public service at this time. And I know it’s not the only way for me to advance the ideals and causes that matter most to me."
Earlier this week, Governor Deval Patrick named his former chief of staff William "Mo" Cowan as interim senator.
The special election to fill the seat will be held June 25th.
