EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. -- More than a thousand parents and educators from over 40 school districts met to talk about what they're calling a "fiscal crisis" in New York's schools.

The “Your Public Schools in Fiscal Peril - Running Out of Time and Options” rally was held at Columbia High School in East Greenbush. Parents and educators gathered to learn more about what Governor Andrew Cuomo’s executive budget means for their schools.

Organizers say the 47 districts, representing more than 110 students, have lost more than $6 billion in the last four years due to budget cuts. They are calling on lawmakers in Albany to take meaningful action during the 2013 legislative session

"We can do lots of creative things, but no matter how many times we do it, it will not help the fundamental problem of how state aid works in the state. And we need state officials are the ones we need help from," said Marie Wiles, Guilderland Public School Superintendent.

Several lawmakers attended the forum to hear from educators as well, including Senator Neil Breslin, Assemblyman John McDonald and Congressman Paul Tonko.
