ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany County Executive Dan McCoy joined local veterans at the VFW Post on Delaware Avenue for the first ever "freeze out."

Coordinated by the Post's commander, McCoy and a group of vets spent the night Saturday night outside on the Post's lawn, all in an effort to raise awareness of homeless vets. The group is also looking for donations from the community for those who gave so much during their time served.

McCoy said, “They won't ask for help, so we're trying to bring people to realize, hey look it, these people served our country and they deserve some help back, we just want to pass it back and say look what we're doing, but more importantly let's take care of the veterans out there.”

McCoy says boots, socks, gloves, hats and jackets are especially needed by the homeless and donations are always welcome.
