WATERVLIET, N.Y. -- Another lawsuit is filed to save the historic St. Patrick's Church in Watervliet from demolition.

A Syracuse-based lawyer filed the suit against the city last Thursday on behalf of the group, "Citizens for St. Patrick's." It stems from violations the group feels the city made throughout the rezoning process, specifically the environmental quality review.

Last month, a judge approved the $1 million sale of the historic building to Nigro Companies.

There are plans to knock down the church, rectory and school to build a Price Chopper and two smaller buildings on the site.

In November, city council members voted to re-zone the site to allow for commercial development.

YNN has reached out to the city for comment.
