MONTGOMERY COUNTY, N.Y. -- State Police broke up a Montgomery County puppy mill after troopers received numerous complaints about dogs living in poor conditions.

More than 50 dogs, mostly pit bulls, were taken to local shelters from a barn off of Route 5S in the Town of Minden. Their health is unknown.

Authorities did not elaborate specifically on their living conditions, but did say the dogs were impacted by the cold weather.

Local shelters and organizations say they were glad to help out.

No arrests have been made. Police believe more than one person may have been involved.
