WATERVLIET, N.Y. – There is a new development in the battle over the former St. Patrick's Church in Watervliet. Last week, a judge approved the $1 million sale of the historic building to Nigro Companies. They want to knock down the church, rectory and school to build a Price Chopper and two smaller buildings there.
Last month, City Council members voted to rezone the site to allow for commercial development. The city has not yet received the permits needed for demolition. The group Citizens For St. Patrick's has been working for months to save the church. They held a candlelight vigil on 19th Street last Saturday. A member of that group tells YNN "no comment at this time."
