SAUGERTIES, N.Y. -- A missing hiker has been found in Saugerties. Fire officials say the 61-year-old man was found deep in the woods Friday evening.

They say the man left for the waterfalls on Platte Clove Road around 9 a.m. Friday. Fire officials say he was supposed to be back around 2 p.m., and when he didn't return, a neighbor went looking for him.

The man told police he had planned on climbing to the top of the mountain but after facing obstacles, he began to return to his vehicle when he was located by rescue personnel.

Numerous teams, including State Police, helped look for the man, who is an experienced hiker. Officials say he was not injured.

Police are reminding hikers to bring a cell phone with them in the event they become injured, and also if they decide to change their hiking plans, let others know who are expecting their return.
