ALBANY, N.Y. -- This is your final weekend of the season to check out a piece of history. The USS Slater will be closing for the winter after their last tour on Sunday. Until then, the Destroyer Escort will be open to the public each day from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The USS Slater is the last World War II Destroyer Escort afloat in America. Hundreds like her served in World War II and wars after, protecting convoys of troops and supplies.
The ship will be closed to the public December through March.
