NEWBURGH, N.Y -- A 19-year-old City of Newburgh man has been arrested after police say he had a handgun and heroin on him.

According to police, a witness reported that someone parked in a minivan on Lake Street had a weapon. Police say when they approached the van, they found Gavonne Bentley crouched down in the passenger side with a handgun in his hand.

Officers removed Bentley from the van at gunpoint. Police say his semi-automatic handgun was loaded and he was also carrying 11 envelopes of heroin.

Bentley was charged with felony weapons possession and misdemeanor drug possession.
