ALBANY, N.Y. -- The wait is almost over for holiday fans as the annual Capital Holiday Lights opens to the public this week.

Mayor Jerry Jennings will be on hand tonight in Washington Park for the lighting of the lights to kick off the season. This year's theme is called "A Sweet 16 Celebration" as the annual tradition is in its 16th season.

New this year is the title sponsor. Price Chopper holds that title after Hannaford held it for several years.

This year's lights will run from Friday, November 23rd through January 4th. People will be able to walk through the lights Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Albany Police Athletic League.
