SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Equipped with rakes, trash bags and a little school pride, Schenectady high students cleaned up the grounds around their school.

Forty-five students volunteered to tidy up the outside of their school. Organizers say not only is this great for the kids to help out, but it's also a chance for community members to see students doing a good thing.

“I think it will show the community, I hope it will show the community, that there's a lot of good here at our high school because there really is. And to be outside and let them see us and to see us working together with them we'll get a positive spin on what goes on here at Schenectady,” said Wendy Ausfeld, a 9th grade teacher.

Local businesses donated supplies to help with clean up efforts.
