ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York kicked off its 28th annual Holiday Hunger Appeal Drive at Crossgates Mall.
For every dollar donated, the Regional Food Bank will distribute $10 worth of food to feed the hungry. Volunteers for the program will be at Crossgates mall from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day until Christmas Eve.
Last year's Holiday Hunger Appeal raised more than $490,000.
"We have been on an incline an up. So we have been collecting more money the last few years. In the mall alone, we collected more than $70,000 last year. Then we also get a lot of donations through the mail and other ways people contribute," said Mark Quandt, Regional Food Bank Executive Director.
Chartwells Dining Services also donated more than $6,000 to the Regional Food Bank.
YNN and our parent company, Time Warner Cable, are sponsors of the event.
