SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The Schenectady City Council is holding a public meeting tonight to discuss the city budget for 2013.

Tonight's meeting comes after Mayor Gary McCarthy met Monday with city council Democrats.

McCarthy vetoed the budget plan last Friday, but gave no reason for why he vetoed it. It would take five votes from the council to override the veto.

McCarthy's budget calls for a tax increase of 4.18 percent.

Council Democrats said they still haven't seen any numbers that explain why their budget wouldn't work for the city. Their plan included a lower tax hike of 1.7 percent.

Schenectady City Council President Denise Brucker said, "We didn't have the actual numbers yet, what the projections are for next year. Apparently there are some new projections or some updated projections that we weren't made aware of."

Tonight's meeting takes place at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
