LANSINGBURGH, N.Y. -- Family and friends gathered to mourn the loss of Walter Uccellini, 67, at the McLoughlin and Mason Funeral Home in Lansingburgh.

Uccellini was the victim of last week's plane crash in Saratoga County. He was the founder of United Group, an organization that has built a number of college dorms upstate.

Friends say they'll remember Uccellini as a good and generous man.

"I've flown in that airplane a lot of times. Jim was a great pilot. And it's just bad luck, the engine had to quit, right at the critical time. If they had been 3,000 feet in the air they would have been alright," said Tim Holk, a friend.

The pilot of the plane, James Quinn of Westerlo, remains in critical condition at Albany Medical Center. Quinn is United Group's Vice Chairman.

Officials believe engine problems are to blame but the crash remains under investigation.

Uccellini will be buried in Troy on Tuesday.
