LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- Since the shooting at a Sikh Temple in Wisconsin, several communities across our region have held vigils and services. On Saturday, the Hindu Temple Society in Loudonville held a memorial service.
Organizers said they wanted to show community support and a send a message of condolence to the victims. Members of the society also said an attack on one place of worship is an attack on all places of worship, and they want to ensure safety so similar instances do not occur in other places.
"This kind of reckless killing has happened so many times because of easy availability of guns, and these people who are not monitored or controlled. And not long ago, it happened in Colorado, and now it happened in Wisconsin, and we don't want to see it happen to anybody else," said Mattur Balakrishna, Hindu Temple Society.
Seven people were killed in the Wisconsin shooting, including the gunman, Wade Michael Page. Two others were injured.
