VOORHEESVILLE, N.Y. -- The woman accused of hitting and killing three pedestrians outside a Voorheesville church last summer has been indicted on charges.

According to the Albany County District Attorney's Office, LuAnn Burgess, 55, is facing three counts of criminally negligent homicide as well as one count each of aggravated vehicular homicide, first-degree vehicular manslaughter, driving while ability impaired, reckless driving driving, and two speeding counts.

The sheriff's office said the Voorheesville woman was driving her Toyota Hylander on Mountainview Street around 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 10, 2011, when when she lost control of the SUV and hit three elderly women who were standing outside St. Matthew's Church.

The victims, Carol Lansing, 66, of Green Island, Rosemarie Hume, 79, and Frances Pallozzi, 81, were hit as they were getting ready to go on a guided walk with the walking group, Volkssport.

Burgess said her flip flop slipped off her foot and got stuck under the gas pedal, causing her to lose control. The sheriff said she was wearing her husband's flip flops, which were too big for her feet.

Burgess was also driving with one arm in a cast and had taken prescription medication the morning of the accident. There was no alcohol or illegal drugs found in her system.
