SCHUYLERVILLE, N.Y. -- Schuylerville's annual Turning Point Parade brings a community together for the 18th year in a row on Sunday. The Turning Point Parade is named to commemorate the Battle of Saratoga, which has been deemed the turning point of the Revolutionary War.

In other words, when the revolutionary forces overtook the British started to overpower the south before eventually claiming victory. That battle took place in 1777.

Sunday's parade had a special theme to honor those currently serving in the military. Our Heroes, Our Home is meant to serve as a welcome home for members of the armed forces and reservists who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Locals looked on as 125 marching units took to the streets, celebrating the heroes of today, as well as those from 200 years ago.

"So, we're excited about this. We love the honor of the troops and the veterans. It's just a wonderful parade," said Nellie Dumas, Schuylerville resident.

This year's parade Grand Marshal is New York National Guard Colonel Richard Goldenberg. Goldenberg is a Schuylerville resident who served in Iraq and now serves as the public information officer of the New York State Division of Military Affairs.
