RENSSELAER, N.Y. -- Crews responded to a fire in Rensselaer on Sunday afternoon at Rudy's Restaurant on Broadway. Fire officials said the fire broke out just before 3:00 p.m. in the restaurant's kitchen. There is smoke damage throughout the building.
Firefighters from the city of Rensselaer and the Clinton Heights Fire Department responded to the scene. They said the weather conditions made it difficult to put out the flames.
"Some challenges are the weather, the heat and humidity. It slowed the firefighters down a little once we got going," said Jay Corcoran, Rensselaer Fire Department Assistant Chief. "Once investigating, we had a kitchen fire in the area of the pizza ovens, we had extensive damage to where the pizza is served."
The restaurant recently re-opened. It's unknown if the restaurant was open at the time of the fire, or if anybody was inside, but officials said there are no known injuries.
