Man hospitalized after Schenectady shooting

A man is shot near a Schenectady bar that is no stranger to violence. Officers were called to Joe's Bar on Fifth Avenue around 3:15 a.m. on Saturday, to find a man shot in the midsection. Our Beth Croughan tells us why this isn't the first time Joe's has seen this type of crime.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- "I'm just reliving it all over again. I just..." sighed Gellie Young.

One day after Gellie Young learns an arrest is made in the November 2011 murder of her son, Rashad Robinson, 23, she revisited the scene of the shooting. U.S. Marshals said they arrested Rodney Davis, 22, of Brooklyn and charged him with second degree murder.

"I just, I had to be the last place he was," Young said.

That's where she found police officers and yellow tape and learned another 23-year-old was shot near there too.

Schenectady Police responded to the area around Joe's Bar on Fifth Avenue, just after 3:00 a.m. on Saturday. That's where they said they found an unidentified man shot in his midsection. They said he was airlifted to Albany Medical Center.

"I mean, when will this stop," asked Young. She called the shootings senseless and questioned the activity at the bar.

It's a place neighbors said is open until the early morning hours and is the cause of some complaints.

"They usually hang around until 4-5 o'clock in the morning. Then they have arguments and fights with their girlfriends or whatever. And then they go home, they disperse. But in the meantime they're arguing in front of our houses," said Matt Rich, a neighbor.

It was in front of those houses, that police processed Saturday's crime scene. A scene all too familiar for this Schenectady mother. "Right now, I'm just, I'm just hurting," said Young.

Police said there are no suspects in custody and are asking anyone with information to contact the department. According to a press release issued early Saturday morning, the victim's condition is unknown.

We attempted to reach out to the owner of Joe's Bar, but were unsuccessful.
