ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Albany Sheriff's Office arrested an Albany couple after they said the couple left their three kids home alone with drugs and a loaded gun.

Deputies stopped James Washington III, 39, and Kelly Sydnor, 37, along Central Avenue. After finding drug paraphernalia in the car, investigators searched their First Street home.

The sheriff's office said they found 50 packs of heroin, a loaded pistol and an assault rifle. They also discovered the couple's three children who are all under the age of 15.

"What if one of the kids took the gun, the gun goes off an accidentally hits a sibling? These are things you don't think about. But of course, most families don't have hundreds of bags of heroin, which is just as dangerous," said Sheriff Craig Apple.

Washington and Sydnor both face several drug and weapons charges as well as child endangerment charges. They are being held at Albany County Jail without bail.

The children are being taken care of by other family members.
