ALBANY, N.Y. -- A woman convicted of welfare fraud will begin serving her sentence after her appeal was unanimously rejected.
The state Appeals court handed down the ruling against Angela Lopez on Thursday. The 37-year-old pleaded guilty to welfare fraud and grand larceny last August for stealing $100,000 in welfare benefits. She was sentenced to at least two years in prison, but was then released on bail after she decided to fight for a less severe sentence.
Lopez is now set to begin serving that sentence next week.
