ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple suddenly stepped into action when a 65-year-old parking lot attendant was tackled by a drunk man in Albany. It happened Wednesday around 5:15 p.m. outside of the Court of Appeals parking garage.

Apple said a witness yelled to him, making him aware of the situation as he was walking from the courthouse to State Street.

According to Apple, he quickly broke up the tackle and after a brief struggle, took Jason Neiles, 29, of Watervliet, into custody. Apple said Nieles had come from Jillian's on South Pearl Street. Apple said that Nieles is on probation for failing to register as a sex offender.

Nieles was charged with felony assault and resisting arrest.

The victim received multiple cuts to his face and head. He was transported by ambulance to Albany Memorial Hospital for treatment.
