HUDSON, N.Y. -- A state of emergency was declared in Hudson Friday. National Grid says almost 2,000 customers in Hudson lost power and another couple thousand in surrounding areas did, too.

People say they weren't expecting this kind of weather or to lose their power.

The Hudson Police Department says every street light in the city went out and the department and the hospital were running on generators.

Residents say their cars were damaged from the strong winds and golf ball sized hail. Some businesses face an uphill battle because of the severe weather.

“Every vehicle has damage on it, not so much hail on the hoods, the roofs and trunks, but the side panels also because the winds were so strong,” said Bob Anderson of Anderson Motor Car Corp.

The Police Department says while this was more than a wind storm, they do not know if the storm will be classified as a tornado.
