NEW YORK -- With today's summer heat, state officials have declared an ozone alert for several parts of the state. They say the combination of sunny hot weather and pollution will generate more ozone at ground level, making it more difficult for people with respiratory problems to exert themselves.
Affected areas include Long Island and the New York City area, and will remain in an ozone advisory until 11 p.m.
Although there are no immediate advisories in the Capital Region, the air quality still won't be great, so officials say people with respiratory problems may want to stay indoors where there's filtered air or air conditioning.
