FULTON COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Northville and Mayfield school districts will hold the first of two public forums tonight to discuss a possible merger.

The districts are considering two options. One would lead to an initial increase in property taxes for the Northville district, and a decrease for Mayfield. Officials say under that option, they would be able to provide more music, art, physical education, technology, and foreign language instruction.

Option two would see Northville residents end up with the same taxes as last year, and Mayfield would see a decrease. Officials say that wouldn't save as many programs as the first option, but would still provide more opportunities than either district could provide individually.

The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. in the Mayfield Junior-Senior High School auditorium. The next meeting is set for Wednesday in the Northville Auditorium.
