SAUGERTIES, N.Y. -- A 27-year-old Saugerties man is dead after police say he fell off a roof. Police received a 911 call regarding an unresponsive person in a parking lot at the corner of Main and Market streets early Sunday morning.
Police said Donald E. Briggs was talking with some friends on the roof of a building on 265 Main Street before falling, suffering injuries leading to his death. Officers do not suspect foul play.

“A subsequent investigation has failed to reveal any criminal activity or foul play and at this point, and it appears to be an accidental death,” said Lt. Richard Mazzone, NY State Police Department.

“A lot of people are upset because he was such a nice guy and it’s not like he was a trouble maker, he was a good person and he’s going to be greatly missed,” said Susan Newkirk, Saugerties resident.

An autopsy and forensics are pending as the investigation continues. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the State Police in Kingston at (845) 338-1702.
