Boxing returns to Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Boxing returned to the Capital Region on Saturday night with Fight Night 9 at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center. Original headliner, Mike Faragon did not fight due to an injury, and Colonie's Javy Martinez was a late scratch due to his opponent dropping out.

The main event was Schenectady's Markus Williams took on Troy Artis in an eight-round middleweight bought. The first couple rounds were pretty even and both fighters were able to get in a couple good punches. Ultimately Williams gets the win by a unanimous decision, moving to 9-3.

The favorite fight on Saturday featured Schoharie native, Sarah Kuhn, taking on the eighth-ranked welterweight in the world, Adelita Irizarry. The third round saw the two ladies both going for knockout, both are able to land some strong shots to the head and body but they both are able to stay on their feet. In the final 10 seconds of the fourth round, Kuhn lands a solid hit that goes the distance. In the end Kuhn has the win, taking down the eighth ranked fighter in the world.

Another local favorite is Troy's Shawn Miller who took on Richard Starnino. This fight lasts all six rounds, with Miller getting the win with a unanimous decision to move to 8-1-1.
