EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. -- A 20-month-old girl died Wednesday in what police said was an accidental drowning in a swimming pool.

Police responded to a home on St. Claire Avenue shortly after 6 p.m. for a report of a child in a pool.

Officers immediately began CPR, and the child was taken to Albany Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

East Greenbush police said the death was accidental, but the investigation continues with the assistance of Rensselaer County Child Protective Services.
