AMSTERDAM, N.Y.-- " Oh, God forbid, God forbid. I could not go on. No," said Marie Forestal.

Marie Forestal can't bear the thought of losing her sister, Monette.

Monette is a UAlbany grad student who has been working on her thesis for the past month, in Haiti.

"I'm just praying, just praying that everything will be okay," she said.

Aside from being a student, Monette is a teacher in the island and would make routine flights to teach at five schools the family owns in Port-au-Prince.

"She has to be alive for the cause, for the Haitian community. This is what she does best, advocate for the kids in Haiti. She believes that every child deserves a good education," Forestal said.

She said the last time she spoke with Monette was Monday Night.

"She called to tell me, to remind the girls, my daughters, to secure her reservation because she has to be here on the 18th," Forestal said.

But now that flight is uncertain as the hours after that call
turned into an eternity for Forestal, leaving her with sleepless nights, praying for her sister's well-being and safe return.

"Mo, if you come to hear this message, know that we are holding for you and Monotzo, my older brother, and the school, and the staff, and other family members. Know that you have friends here in your family and the American government is there for you," she said.

And that solemn plea turned into reality.

"She's on the phone calling, thank you, thank you. Hi Mo. You are on the computer? Channel 9 is here, Channel 9 is here at home running a story about you. We are missing you Mo. We love you, so glad to hear from you," she said.

Forestal said her sister and her family are doing well. She said she wants others who haven't yet heard from their loved ones to remain hopeful even in a time of so much uncertainty.

"Praise God," she said. "Praise the Lord. Praise the lord. Hallelujah, glory in heaven," she said.
