MIDDLEBURGH, N.Y. -- Residents in Middleburgh are set to vote today on whether to dissolve the village into the town of the same name.
Under state law, only village residents are able to vote on the matter.
The referendum was introduced by former Mayor Gary Hayes who says the plan will save money.
A meeting was held last month when many residents came out to express their concerns over the potential dissolution.
Village residents pay both village and town taxes, but many of the services are shared.
The issue upsets Mayor Matthew Avitable. He says while village residents may save money, town residents' taxes will increase.
