Take a ride into the Finger Lakes into Steuben County and get yourself just south of Keuka Lake near Hammondsport, N.Y. for a very pleasant surprise.
Pleasant Valley Wine Company is a great wine country discovery off of County Route 88, Lake Street.
This is the oldest winery in the Finger Lakes once known as Great Western, established back in 1860! Touring a french chateau is what makes this getaway very different from all the others! It's all about champagne here!
A 45-minute tour begins at 11 a.m. with the last tour leaving at 3 p.m. daily. The cost is $5.
From Penn Yan, NY, take Route 54 South along Keuka Lake's East side to Hammondsport. From Rt. 54 as you pass the fire hall, turn right at your first traffic light onto Main Street. Go 1/4 mile into Hammondsport and then a left turn onto Lake Street. Continue on Lake St. for about 1 and 1/4 miles. Look for the sign to the Pleasant Valley Wine Company's Visitor Center on your left.
