There's a winter wonderland of value in New Hampshire.
Spending New Year’s Eve in a New Hampshire motor inn couldn’t be a further stretch from Times Square.
But this just off the highway location four hours from Manhattan proved to be a surprise find as the second stop along my "Getaway Not Far Away" itinerary between Maine and Pennsylvania.
With 17 rooms in all, some facing the river and a few dog-friendly, each includes free WiFi, continental breakfast and passes to the local gym.
Clean and comfy, with the bonus of super-powered showers, Jack Daniels proved to be a perfect pit stop.
Turns out the inn, located in the town of Peterborough, is 9 miles from Crotched Mountain where the Ski, Stay and Save package is $89 per person based on double occupancy. Kids 16 and under are free.
"The basic package is one night’s lodging, two adult lift tickets and a $25 dining voucher," Eric Lorimer of the Jack Daniels Motor Inn says.
Extra discounted lift tickets are available for $43 each.
Crotched Mountain brings the concept of Apres Ski to a new level with the entire mountain -- and its 25 trails -- lit for night skiing every Friday and Saturday into the wee hours with their Midnight Madness event.
"There’s a special ticket from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. or 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.," John Young from Crotched Mountain says. "There are live bands, slopeside bonfires and food and drink specials in the Onset pub."
Additionally, 16 New Hampshire resorts that are part of the Ski New Hampshire group are offering free skiing and snowboarding perks to first timers in January, as well as learn to ski packages for fourth and fifth graders.
