BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. -- A benefit was held in honor of a Ballston Spa High School student who was killed back in July by a drunk driver.
Family, friends and the community gathered at the Creek and Pines Mobile Home Park reminding people about the costs of drinking and driving.
Kari Liedel, 14, was killed by a drunk driver as she was walking on West Milton Road on July 7th. The community is spreading Kari's message, that drinking and driving is no accident and it's illegal.
Those who were closest to the teen say they're happy to see the outpour of support.
"It means a lot. It means people in the community actually care and they're not just saying it. It’s overwhelming how many people care about Kari and how many people care drinking and driving really kills people," said Sam Hika, Kari’s best friend.
The driver of the vehicle, Gavin Staulters, 21, has pleaded not guilty to the charges, including driving under the influence and second degree vehicular manslaughter.
