SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- It was a bittersweet retirement for a detective at the Schenectady Police Department.

Detective Loretta Marco is leaving the force after 33 years of service to the community.

Marco is the third woman to be hired at the Schenectady Police Department. She became a detective in 2001, starting in the juvenile division before entering the detective division in 2003.

Marco said it's been an incredible experience and that she wanted to be a police officer ever since she was a little girl.

"I used to watch Dragnet and different police shows, and I thought that this job would encompass all other types of careers because you get to do so many varied things," she said.

Marco said she plans on traveling, volunteering and working on other projects at home.
